Friday Night Mediation GroupDear Friends in Dharma:
Every Friday night from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm we have a section of meditation practice for English speakers at Thuong Hanh Buddhist Monastery. You are welcome to join us. Please call Don at: 903-904-9633 for additional information. https://www.thfnmg.com Project of Building THBM's Buddha HallLETTER FROM THBM (THUONG HANH BUDDHIST MONASTERY) Request for Assistance in the Construction of the Main Buddha Hall at the THBM Dear Friends in Dharma: The tradition of Supporting the Triple Jewels to promote the teachings of Buddhism is a sacred merit and virtue of a Buddhist. It serves a foundation for happiness in this life and future lives. Since early 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has inflicted terrible physical and mental sufferings to the entire world. As Buddhists, we are fortunate to have Buddha’s teachings, to develop a deep understanding of the nature of impermanence, and to create good karma. Calamity, sickness, and suffering arise from each individual’s karma. As Buddhists, we are always mindful of the suffering of others; cherish one another and to live to help and benefit others. This includes creating the conditions for others to learn of the Buddha’s teachings, to develop the Bodhi mind and be on the path towards Enlightenment. With that goal in mind, THBM (Thuong Hanh Buddhist Monastery) was established in 2017. Over the past three years, Buddhists and visitors from far and near have traveled to the Monastery to engage in Buddhist studies. Even in the midst of the difficulties created by the Covid-19 pandemic since last year, the Abbott of the Monastery, the monks and nuns, and Buddhist members of the THBM continued to complete the installation of the Statue of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva represents and brings peace and tranquility, especially to those who are in the midst of suffering. We are pleased to announce that this project has been completed. The statue of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva at the THBM is 35 feet high and weighs over 80 tons, located on top of a small hill in a 12-acre area on the grounds of the Monastery, is the largest marble statue in the state of Texas. Since the placement of the statue, thousands of visitors have come to the Monastery to visit, meditate and pray. While the THBM has a large meditation garden, and there is increasing number of guests and visitors to our Monastery, we do not yet have a Main Buddha Hall at the Monastery to engage in Buddhist studies, meditate and pray, as well as to honor the spirits of deceased relatives. The task of building a THBM cannot be completed overnight and requires dedicated efforts from many individuals over a number of years. While the current environment is challenging, to respond to the needs of the Buddhists community, it is important for us to continue our efforts of building and developing the Monastery. We would kindly ask for your assistance in continuing to help us to build and develop the THBM that will serve as a common spiritual house not only for ourselves but for future generations. Please see the DONATION FORM below for additional informations. We pray that the pandemic will soon pass, and our lives will soon return to a sense of normalcy. We pray that the Buddha will guide us to overcome these difficulties, help us to develop the Bodhi mind, leading to Enlightenment. May you be happy and well. _/\_ Abbot. Ven. Thich Tam Thien, Ph.D., www.thuonghanh.org
